Recharge Your Motivation
Success comes through hard work and determination. True?
Yes, it’s true! Most things that are worthwhile take hard work, dedication and a little sacrifice.
I see many people join gyms or an online 12 week challenge only to fall off the wagon mid-way through their journey, if they make it that far.
Because motivation will only get you so far. Motivation is like phone battery; it’ll sustain you for a while, but will fade – so you need some solid strategies to recharge your motivation battery so you can smash your goals.
Even with a fitness tracker that monitors your progress, it’s difficult to realise your goals if you…
- attempt to change too much at once
- go out the gates too hard and
- don’t seek the support and guidance necessary to keep you accountable and on track.
We all need a little support now and then…
People tend struggle when they start exercising and realise that it’s not some walk in the park.
The results don’t come as quickly as they expect which can put a real bummer on their motivation.
But like I’ve said…results will only come through consistent hard work.
And if you do find your motivation waning, and it will, here are my top 4 tips that will help you stick to your fitness goals to get the results you want…
1. Set goals that mean something
What is your driving force for wanting to lose weight and get fit? Think beyond wanting to lose kilos…
- Do you want to feel comfortable in your clothes?
- Have a great selection of clothes to choose from?
- Do you want to like what you see in the mirror?
- Do you want more stamina to get through your day?
- You want more energy to play with your kids & you’re sick of sitting on the sidelines!
Establish a goal that actually means something to you and work towards achieving it.
Wanting to achieve weight loss is a worthy goal but what are some other things you can focus on that will keep you motivated, then be sure to reflect on them for a couple of minutes every morning. Set an intention to be true to your goals.
What matters most is that you set goals that have great meaning in your life. This will help you push yourself even when the going gets tough.
2. Have a source of motivation
You can be motivated to exercise by the possible end results.
Think of how much your life will change for the better when you stay fit and use this to push yourself in order to achieve meaningful results.
Your source of motivation can also be your fitness goals.
What is it that offers you encouragement or makes you want to succeed whenever you feel like giving up on your fitness regimen? Answering that question will help you stay focused and achieve your fitness goals.
3. Consequences of not exercising
What are the consequences of not exercising?
Think of all the health complications that may arise as a result of not living a healthy lifestyle.
- Joint pain
- Weight gain
- Loss of mobility
- Onset of depression
- High blood pressure
- Increased risk of diabetes
…to name a few.
Combine the concern for your long term health with your meaningful goal and this should be enough to help you maintain fidelity to your fitness routine.
4. Find a support group
Having a strong support system is very important in your quest to exercise on a regular basis.
Your family members, colleagues and friends can provide a strong support network that can come in handy when you feel like giving up or deviating from your set goals and objectives. Lean on them for support and find the strength and motivation to carry on.
Better yet, find a group of people who are exercising and train with them. Training in a group and competing against one another is a key factor to long term success.
You’ll be missed when you don’t show up and and you develop friends with your ‘training crew’, they’ll keep you accountable and give you a strong support network…
…connection, camaraderie, friendly competition, support and encouragement are all benefits of training with people who are on the same quest as you.
These are some of the ways in which you can stay focused and maintain a regular fitness program.
It’s not always easy to exercise, quite honestly most people aren’t too fussed on it to start with. But after a short period of initial discomfort, while you adjust to a new routine, in time it does become fun and a normal part of your every day life.
Living a healthy life is very fulfilling and joyous. Work on one of these tips each week for 4 weeks and you’ll have your motivation mojo back.
